The Peer Specialist for CCS Respite provides direct support to program participants. The Peer Specialist performs intakes, attends to the needs of program participants and supports other staff in their behavioral approaches to residents. The Peer Specialist manages the daily schedule of activities, including meals, groups, personal care and behavioral interventions. The Peer Specialist provides counseling from the perspective of one’s own experience, having personally lived with behavioral health challenges.

Your experience, knowledge and great skills will support the CCS Respite program with the following:

  • Establishing rapport with individuals, family, co-workers and collateral providers to gather information and develops a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s current situation.
  • Identifying, assisting, supporting and communicating the needs of individuals served in the program, including mental status, social functioning, and safety issues.
  • Organizing the daily routines, providing a therapeutic environment and materials, to facilitate wellness, social or recovery groups, hygiene and meals, for resident participation
  • Completing necessary documentation about recovery, in clear and timely manner, including shift notes and hourly checks.
  • Performing household tasks to meet program goals and providing for the daily needs and well-being of individuals.
  • Providing staffing for the CCS Respite according to mandatory minimum safety standard at all times.

The mission of the Community Crisis Stabilization (CCS) program at BHN is to help people recover from a psychiatric crisis or continue to feel supported after an inpatient hospital stay. The CCS program provides 24-hour staff, clinical assessment and medication evaluation.

Job Requirements

What are we looking for in a position?

  • Certification as a Peer Specialist or Recovery Coach preferred.
  • Personal lived experience with behavioral health challenges required.
  • Knowledge of recovery concepts and skills, including confidentiality and boundaries.
  • High motivation to work with the mentally ill population.
  • Ability to relate and establish rapport with individuals, families, and collateral providers.
  • Ability to work as a team member and to follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Good interviewing and observation skills.
  • Ability to understand behavioral health concepts and terms.
  • MA Drivers License and registered, insured vehicle for job use is preferred
